This article explores the concepts of leadership and management in research and in todays workplace. The author surveys various research frameworks for comparing the two concepts and suggests directions for future research.

In this article, the author explores variances in leadership with regard to four specific points of reference: leader traits, the role of situation in leadership, the integration of traits for successful leadership, and the stability of traits over time. In addition, the author proposes suggestions for future trait-based leadership research.
