Living Myth

Part 1.
Your Living Myth project should include:
1) Your written creation myth (3 pages)
a. the creation of matter/form (whatever “shape” you see that matter taking); i.e. how it all began
b. the creation of a “place” for your civilization to live
c. the creation of “intelligent life” (your version of humans, again, whatever shape or form that takes)
d. the relationship between the biological beings making up your civilization and the god(s) / force(s) that made them (do the gods live amongst the ‘people;’ are there physical gods at all; are the gods forgotten; are the gods avidly worshiped?)
Note: kindly write 3 pages for point 1. Need to be Creative and use own ideas.

2) The main pantheon/god/creative forces (this could be visually rendered, like a family tree or map with short descriptors, or it may be written and attached to creation myth)

3) An account of your civilization’s Hero and a part of their Hero’s Journey (3 pages)

Note: Write 3 pages for point 3).

4) Your apocalypse prophecy (at least 2 pages)

5) Artifact(s): you will need to produce at least one artifact for your civilization to leave behind. The artifacts don’t need to cost you an arm and a leg, or anything monetarily, for that matter, nor do they need to be ‘perfect.’ They simply need to convey an aspect of the mythology you create. They may be practical, artistic, oral, performative, or something else.

Part 2
Also choose one of the following: (should be 2 pages)

A description/account of an important female in the pantheon or in a literary story of the culture; this may be divine, human, animal, combination
1) Rites (rituals) that your civilization performs and (brief) accounts for how those rites are evidence the culture’s belief system
2) An account of your civilization’s relationship with the natural world and with natural resources; how does their civilization and beliefs tie to the unique geography of their region? Are they conversationalists, or do you not care about the world around them? Etc
3) Folktale: a folktale involving humans, animals, and/or divine beings that help explain a phenomena, teach a lesson, or show a value important to the culture (may be geared toward children)

Influence/Inspiration: Include a brief note about what cultures or myths most inspired each group member’s contribution to the project; this may include other influences, as well, coming from other literature, history, popular culture, personal life, etc.

Artistic? If you have group members who are artistic, you are welcome to produce a visual representation of one or more of these parts. As in, perhaps you have someone who wants to make an infographic of the pantheon or who will paint a representation of the culture’s main hero. Talk to me about your ideas.
