Assignment context and scenario: Considering that you are recently appointed as management intern in the Human Resource Department of a Travel and Tourism company, you have been given 4 assignment tasks (below) to be carried out and present to the manager who would like to see your understanding of the human resource management in the service sector.
You will be, therefore, need to choose an appropriate organisation in the travel and tourism sector, preferably a UK listed company, and analyse the human resource management function and practice in the chosen organisation. You would need to examine how the organisation has been practicing human resource policies and activities currently within the service sector context.
The tasks in this coursework assignment are all based on the scenario provided above but your discussion should be supported by relevant theories and concepts.
TASK 1: A) examine the role of human resource function in the service sector organisation and asses its contribution to the success of your chosen travel and tourism organisation. B) Analyse the supply demand for service sector personnel in your business environment and prepare a human resource plan for your chosen travel and tourism organisation.
TASK 2: A) Briefly discuss the history of employment relations in the UK and analyse the current state of employment relations in your chosen travel and tourism organisation. B) Asses how employment laws affect the human resources management function in your chosen travel and tourism firm.
TASK 3: A) Analyse the rectruitment and selection policies and process in your chosen organisation and discuss how it relates to the organisational Human Resource policies. B) Produce the job description and person specification for a specific travel and tourism job and compare with that of another service organisation.
TASK 4: A) Critically examine the current training and development process of the chosen organisation and discuss the various approaches available for the organisation. B) Analyse and discuss how training and development contributes to the staff performance and organisational success in general.
