Review the numerous case studies provided in Kochhar-Bryant, C. A., & Greene, G. (2009) that focus on how to promote transition services and initiate any needed change procedures in a school system.

Focus on the following questions:

A. Why is greater leadership needed to improve transition services?

B. How does the United States invest in personnel development for transition?

C. What are the dimensions of the transition leadership role?

D. How do transition leaders facilitate systematic reform and what reforms are needed?

E. How can competencies be strengthened to build local capacity for transition?

F. How should transition curriculum be designed?

G. How can institutes of higher education help prepare leaders for transition service improvement?

Interview a supervisor or director of special education services in a school system of your choice. This may be done face-to-face or through technological means (telephone, email, Skype, etc.).

The interview will focus on how to promote transition services and initiate any needed change procedures in a school system. Be sure to obtain permission, if needed, for this assignment.

Interview questions will include but not be limited to the following:

B. How does the United States invest in personnel development for transition?

C. What are the dimensions of the transition leadership role?

D. How do transition leaders facilitate systematic reform and what reforms are needed?

E. How can competencies be strengthened to build local capacity for transition?

F. How should transition curriculum be designed?

G. How can institutes of higher education help prepare leaders for transition service improvement?

Include an interview protocol (a complete list of the interview questions utilized in the order they were asked) and a summary of the information collected. Provide a summary analysis of the results.

Write a paper that documents your findings of transition services. Be sure to address the questions listed in the table above, and include the following:

  • An APA-format cover page.
  • The paper will be 5-7 double-spaced pages in length, using 12-point Times New Roman font. The cover page and reference list are not included in this page count.
  • Address all seven questions and the interview protocol (may be appendixed and paper may also be organized by also including all of the questions in the body of the paper along with one or more paragraphs describing responses to the questions) plus the final summary.
  • Include a minimum of 5 reference citations (you may use your text).

Your finished transition services interview document should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Review APA Form and Style.
