ABSTRACT
Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) is a challenging reaction that has continuously hindered the development of hydrogen operated fuel cells as a viable energy source. Platinum is the only commercially available catalyst for this reaction. The high cost and limited availability of Pt has led to a search for developing techniques for effective utilization of Pt by modifying the nanostructure or by alloying it with another cheaper material. The proposed research is aimed towards controlled synthesis of Pt nanostructures to systematically study the effect of shape and size on ORR. The catalytic activity will be evaluated by using an electrochemical cell and the results will be compared with commercially available Pt/C catalysts.
