The Apology of SocratesThe oracle in Delphi gave prophecies directly from the gods. In this case, the Pythian prophetess answered that there was no man wiser than Socrates. And Socrates immediately thought, ‘What can the god mean… for I know that I have no wisdom, small or great? After his own investigation, Socrates concluded that the god was not actually wrong. How could that be, since Socrates stated that he was not particularly wise? How did he carry out his investigation? When he said I shall obey God rather than you, what was it that he would not stop doing, even if that could mean his death? What did he see as his skill, and why did he think that it had value?
