Annotated Bibliography

To complete this assignment successfully, review the instructions for the Final Paper in Week Five. The intent of this assignment is to assist you in organizing and evaluating potential scholarly sources for the Final Paper.

  1. Name of the article, including the complete bibliographic citation, using APA format.
  2. Summary/abstract of the article – annotation (sometimes it is helpful to ask yourself the following questions in synthesizing the information:
  • Who? (author)
  • What was done? (for example, an experimental study investigating the interaction of short term memory and attention)
  • How? (was it done)
  • What were the findings? (identify the major ones)
  • Contributions? (New findings, applications, etc.)
  • How will this article support or dispute my thesis?

To conduct accurate research, you need to do research in peer-reviewed journals or other sources that are considered to have reliable information. In addition to your required course text, you need at least six professional scholarly sources, three of which must be peer reviewed journal articles found in the Ashford University Library.

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

The annotated bibliography is a collection of a minimum of 10 one-paragraph summaries of peer-reviewed journal resources that you intend to use in the Final Paper.

1. The articles must be current or dated within the past 5 years. The ability to use resources older than 5 years is left to the discretion of the instructor. 2. Do not paste the article abstract in the paper. Annotations must be your summary of the article. The summary must include the findings of research that was included in the article. 3. Do not simply say the authors conducted a study without providing as summary of the findings. 4. Do not paste the Annotated Bibliography in the Final Paper. The Annotated Bibliography simply provides information that should contribute to the Final Paper.

Requirements

1. Include the full source citation at the beginning of each summary. 2. Follow current APA formatting guidelines. 3. Provide sufficient information in the summary so that the reader knows what the article contributes to the Final Paper. For example, if you mention a study, then include a summary of the relevant findings. To say, “The authors conducted a study” without an explanation of what they found offers no information. 4. List the sources alphabetically according to the first author’s last name. 5. Include a title page. 6. Sources must be current or within the past 5 years.

Write one paragraph for each article, giving a brief summary of what it is about. You do not have to read each article in its entirety, but skim it so you can tell what it is basically discussing and what is important. How does the article tie into your paper topic? Anything confusing you?

4. Write an APA style reference for each article. Please see the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) here:  for more information.
